why should I teach tennis at summer camp?

If you love to play tennis and want to teach the sport to others in the Canadian sunshine, then this is the perfect job for you.

To be a tennis coach at camp, you’ll have to be able to adapt to campers of various ages and skill levels in a session as well as demonstrating your ability and confidence to lead sessions on your own! It’s an amazing thing at the end of camp to see how far your campers have progressed under your coaching.

Camp directors will be looking for applicants who show energy and determination in their coaching to help inspire campers to be the best they can.

what does a tennis instructor do at summer camp?

Being a tennis coach is an amazing summer camp role, as it provides fun and excitement for both staff and camper alike. You will be expected to plan activities for various skill levels to keep all campers engaged and making progress as tennis players.

As tennis is one of the most popular sports at camp, tennis coaches can expect to teach 5-6 lessons per day as well as bonus private sessions that may be scheduled. Tennis tournaments and inter-camp tennis leagues happen often at most camps, meaning you could be doing a bit of traveling to other camps.

What if I don't have any qualifications?

Short answer - it might not be a problem. For most activities, you won't need any particular qualifications to teach your activity at camp. For others, we may be able to provide training before camp starts - you'll still need a decent amount of experience in your activity, but we'll make sure you're ready before the campers start arriving. The best thing to do is apply for the role you want, and if it doesn't work out, you may be able to lock down a similar role. Whatever you end up doing, you'll still be fully trained for camp!

Do I still get days off?

Of course! Everyone needs time to recharge their batteries after an exciting but hectic week at camp, as well as the opportunity to explore the local area and further afield. Most camps will give you a 24 hour block of free time every week, whilst some others provide 2-4 days off in a row every few weeks.

Do I need to bring equipment?

Some camps will want you to bring equipment for certain activities, but this will likely only be in the form of clothes and personal gear, but they’ll let you know this once you’re hired. Most often, you won’t have to bring any specialist equipment, with Canadian summer camps being equipped with state of the art facilities to develop the campers’ skills, as well as yours.
